The Magnificent Desolation

Just a little something I wrote about a year ago.

From time to time I get to wander the back roads of the West. To me there is nothing like the sound of the rocks, sand and gravel as you roll onto a dirt road. As I drive along and see all the abandoned shacks and buildings, I think of a time when life was simpler. I love those little towns. I was raised in a city near Los Angeles, but always hated it. I felt like a rat in a cage. The daily grind was so unbearable. I would run away to the deserts every weekend, I called it my sanctuary. And would refer to coming back to the city as: Returning to the soup. If it weren

Flip Axle

I picked up my 3rd axle today. The way they have the D-Rings on the side of the frame cmbined with the 2 link connection on the upper mount make it hard to flip. I'm going back on Monday and having some D-Rings welded to the rear of the frame. While I'm at it, I am going to have some additional D-Rings welded on the trailer for more points of securement.

Talk to you all later:

Trick My Truck

I'm sure most of you have seen the CMT channels show "Trick My Truck". I was at a rest area in Donley, TX. and happened to come across the Bellaire truck. I checked it out pretty closely and the detail is awesome. I don't really go gaga over tricked out trucks, but I thought you all might like to see it.

I occasionally run across the Tree House truck, but we are always rolling in opposite directions.

Anyway, I've just been running around, here and there. Hauling this and that. This is my latest haul. Do you ever see things on trucks and wonder where its' going or where its' been? Well, not sure where this dozer has been, but I picked it up in Farmington, NM. It was sold to a guy in VA. and I am taking it to the port in Houston. From there is will be heading to South Africa.

I hope all is going well for all of you.
Until next time:

Well Well Well

Hello All:
Well, I find myself back in Woodbridge, Va. to load another LAV like the one from a couple posts ago. I am really enjoying this double drop trailer. I find that I am on construction sites quite a bit. It's nice to be out in the woods where there s peace and quite. Sometimes there are other trucks there, but the mind set and camaraderie amongst the drivers is really cool.
I decided to go ahead and buy another axle for the trailer. This will add about another 20,000 pounds of capacity. Anyway, just thought I'd update you on my whereabouts.

Oh, by the way, you can catch The KnighTime radio show on slapcast. We have been covering issues like the NAFTA Super HWY, the North American Union and Mexican border Xing to name a few. These aren't topics that I know much about, so thank you Sheryl for clueing us all in.

Here is the link to listen:

Latest Haul

Hello All:
After I delivered the LAV from the last post, I picked up an oversize stainless steel tank going to City of Industry, CA. Along the way I stopped and picked up my mom in Fresno, Ca. as she has been wanting to ride with me for some time now. We had a great time. She took the train back home because I would not be heading back that way. But at least I got to spend some time with her and my wife.
So now I have a CAT 320DL Excavator that I picked up in Long Beach, CA. going to Salt Lake City, UT. It snowed most of the way thru Utah yesterday which I actually enjoyed. The snow in the early season is nice because the road is still to warm for it to stick. I have another load scheduled to pick up in Salem, OR. next week going down to GA.

That's all for now.

September Snow

Here is a pictureof the current load I am under. It is called an LAV (lite armored veh.)

Two hours after taking that picture, I was in Utah going over Parlays Summit and it was snowing.

So that's the first snow in my new truck.
I gotta say, I really enjoy my job despite what you may hear other truckers talk about, you know, all the negitive stuff,. There are new challanges and things to learn each and eveyday. Owning my own truck and trailer and picking my own loads is the best. I have a few friends tha are real profitable in this industry and we are always swapping ideas and learning from each other.
I think setting goals out here is the single most important thing you can do. It gives you a drive to contiue on. Sure there are ups and downs, just don't focus on the downs, life is much easier that way.
Well, that's it for now.

New Truck And Trailer

Hello all:

Things are still going strong at Landstar. I purchased a new (used) truck that was more suited to heavy haul and oversize. It's a KW T800 with all the bells and whistles. Then last week I bought an RGN double drop. The picture is of the first load I pulled with it and was taken at a rest stop on I135 in Kansas. Sorry I don't post much any more, but I am usually pretty busy. Well, that's it for now.

Oversize Virgin? Not Any More!

Well, things are going pretty good. I'm slowly recovering from my truck being broken into. Replacing things little by little (some things can never be replaced). So I finally broke down and bought some tarps for the truck. I also bought ramps, and the next two loads just about paid for them. The first was a load out of Indiana to Medford, Or. which I had to tarp. Then from Shasta city, Ca. down to Las Vegas, Nv. with an old 1955 or 59 (somewhere in there) fire truck. Those ramps sure came in handy. The attention that the fire truck attracted was unbelievable.
I still love pulling a step deck and can't imagine it any other way. It's a completely different lifestyle all together. I am pulling my first O V E R S I Z E load right now. It's only ten feet wide, but still a learning process none the less. Speed limits, times you can travel and places you can't, curfews. Man, the list goes on and on and on. Oh, and I had to tarp it as well. Tarping for the first time was like a four hour work out on a BowFlex. Pulling those bungies (100 of them) really gets the ol' muscles hurtin. It's not easy work.
My digital camera got stolen in the break in so it'll be a bit before I get some new pics up.
Catch ya on the flip side.

Back By Popular Demand

WOW!!!
Has it been that long since I've made a post? well I guess I did that last winter too. I don't know what it is about winter but it sure wears me out. The short daylite hours and the crappy weather really drains ya.
Yes, I am still with Landstar and things are going well. My truck recently got broken into. I was at a hotel in Fresno Ca. attending my dads funeral. I woke up and went out to my truck to get something and there it was, all emptied out. Man I'm so pissed about that. I'm not mad about the stuff they stole, just that they got my log book with my passport and other personal info. I had my CDL with me and my laptop and some clothes but they pretty much got everything else.
The funny thing is that the hotel security cams caught the whole thing but they couldn't make out the plate on the car as they drove away. The other funny thing is that they (or he/she) was in my truck from 04:43am to 05:52am. That's the kind of thing that just takes the wind right out of your sails. I mean it's hard enough to make a living as it is.
I'm in Salt Lake City, UT. tight now on my way to Medford, OR. then from there to Las Vegas NV.

Well, that's it for now.
Catch ya on the flip.
